DAy 1

well today was the first day of basebaLL practice. i think that it went very well it seemed that all of the kids really had a good time and enjoyed playin ball. we set a schedule and tried our best to stick w/ it. only problem was that we did not have all of the kids there. i went into today a little nervous. it being the first time that i have coached a team in quite some time. i have been away from the sport. even though it is like riding a bike. there are a few large differences. things that take time gettin back into the swing of. like tryin to communicate what you are tryin to say to 9-10 year old terms. i noticed it when i used the word convey and one of the little boys looked at me like i was a creature from another planet. as the practice went on things started gettin a little bit better and that kids started working together as a team. breaking off into groups is good for the fact that you get to work a little more on certain skills that a child may need to develop. however, it is a team we need to play as a team. i think between mike, brian and myself that we are gonna have a great year. the kids seem gung-ho on playin ball. they all seem to be pretty good as well. considering that they are only 9 years old. it is hard to teach them why you do something a certain way that you have just done naturally since as long as you can remeber. i think teaching the fundametals is what is tough. i actually had the priveledge of being in charge of the pitching session. i would say one of the most difficult things to teach. it breaks down into such mechanics. i have a pretty good eye at seeing what they are doing wrong, i tell them what i think that they can do to improve it and than they just forget.
it is all good it is only day 1. and it is all suppose to be about fun. i will just take it in stride and make sure thast the kids walk away from every game and practice smiling and feeling like they did the best that they could. win or lose. (of course it always feels good to win though)
